How to choose a hair transplant clinic in Turkey: a 10-point checklist

The 10-point clinic checklist

With so many hair transplant clinics in Istanbul, choosing one can feel overwhelming. This checklist gives you a systematic way to evaluate any clinic, mine included.

1. Health Ministry health-tourism authorization

Does the clinic hold the Turkish Health Ministry's health-tourism authorization? It covers the standards for treating international patients. Ask for the certificate number and check it.

2. Named, verifiable doctors

Can you find the doctor's name, photo, qualifications and history? Search the name and check professional registries. A reputable doctor makes credentials easy to find.

Red flag: the website only says "a team of experts" without naming anyone.

3. Who performs each step

Ask directly: "Who designs the hairline, who opens the channels, and who extracts and places the grafts?" Clinics differ in how much of the procedure the doctor performs. The honest ones tell you in writing.

4. Genuine patient reviews

Check Google reviews, Trustpilot and RealSelf. Look for detailed reviews from international patients that name doctors and describe the experience. Be skeptical of generic reviews with no detail.

5. Transparent pricing

A good clinic gives a clear breakdown of what's included before you commit. If a clinic won't give you a total until you arrive in Istanbul, that's a major red flag.

Always confirm: is the price for the maximum grafts your donor area allows, or per graft? Are PRP, medications and the hotel included? Which hotel, exactly?

6. Results you can compare

Ask to see results similar to your case, ideally at several stages: right after the procedure, then at 3, 6 and 12 months. Be wary of a handful of cherry-picked photos.

7. Photos of the facility

Can you see photos or video of the actual operating room and equipment? A licensed medical center shows its facility. Clinics in converted apartments or hotel rooms avoid it.

8. Aftercare after you fly home

What happens once you're home? Good clinics provide structured follow-up: scheduled photo check-ins, answers to questions, and a clear way to handle problems remotely. Ask about the timeline and the channel.

9. Realistic expectations

A good clinic is honest about what's achievable. If a Norwood 7 patient is promised a full head of hair in one session, that's unrealistic. Trustworthy doctors are honest about graft count, coverage and a possible second session.

10. No pressure sales

"Book in the next 48 hours for a 30% discount" is a sales tactic, not medicine. Reputable clinics give you time to compare quotes and decide. Your health is too important for impulse purchases.
