What is PRP?
PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a non-surgical treatment that uses your own blood. A small sample is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, which are then injected into the scalp. The growth factors in the platelets may support follicle health and healing; evidence is mixed.
How a session works
- Blood draw: a small sample (20–30 ml) from your arm.
- Centrifuge: the blood is spun to separate and concentrate the platelets (5–10 minutes).
- Injection: the PRP is injected into the scalp with fine needles, with numbing cream for comfort.
- Duration: typically 30–45 minutes in total.
- After: most people go back to normal activities the same day.
When PRP is used
- After a hair transplant: PRP during or shortly after the procedure is used to support healing. One session is included in the DHI and Hair + Smile packages; otherwise $200 per session.
- Early thinning: for people not ready for a transplant, PRP may help slow shedding for some patients — added to a hair or dental trip, not sold as a separate trip.
- Follow-up sessions: some doctors suggest sessions every 4–6 months to support native hair; ask your own doctor at home.
What results to expect
Typically, for some patients:
- Less shedding within 2–4 weeks
- Thicker-looking hair by months 2–3
- Fine new hairs from months 3–4
- The most visible change around months 6–8
