How Sapphire FUE and standard steel-blade FUE differ: channel size, healing, density, scarring and price.
The key difference: the blade
The difference is the blade that opens the recipient channels, the tiny incisions where grafts are placed. Standard FUE uses steel blades; Sapphire FUE uses blades made from synthetic sapphire, which allow smaller, cleaner incisions.
Sapphire blades can stay sharp longer than steel over a long procedure. Steel blades can dull over the course of a session, which can mean slightly larger incisions toward the end.
Why sapphire blades
Smaller incisions typically mean less tissue trauma, which shows up as faster healing (scabs typically fall off in 7–10 days instead of 10–14), less scabbing and redness, less swelling, and the option to place grafts closer together.

When standard FUE is still a good choice
Standard FUE is still a good technique for many cases: fewer grafts (under 2,000), thick skin that does better with slightly larger channels, or a team with far more steel-blade experience.
The team's skill matters more than the blade material.

Many Istanbul clinics now use sapphire blades as standard because the cost difference is small and patients typically heal faster. At the partner clinic, Sapphire FUE is the standard technique in the $2,900 package, at no extra charge.
